TCRC Annual Meeting and Election

October 18, 2024 – 7:30 PM

The dessert bar was such a big success last year that we will do it again this year.

Originally from South of Green Bay WI, Emily got her BA in Horticulture at UWRiver Falls. While there, she became interested in roses, learning about them from her advisor, David Zlesak. Presently a Master’s Degree student in plant breeding and genetics at the University of Minnesota, Emily is working on evaluating two methods for mapping a new black spot-resistant gene from a rose population derived from ‘Morden Blush’ and a resistant selection which is a seedling of “Baby Love”TM.

Emily’s research also focuses on evaluating three populations that share ‘Morden Blush’ as the seed parent to identify genes related to petal count in roses. She will be speaking on the use of bulk segregation analysis sequencing as a novel, cost-effective technique to locate traits of interest in garden roses.

This should be a very interesting presentation. Join us at the church for our last meeting of 2024 for an evening of friendship, scholarship, election of officers and yummy desserts!
