Rose of the Month ~ November 2003

Tuscany

Winter is approaching and it's never too early to start thinking about next year's new additions to the garden. Tuscany is an Old Garden Rose also known as The Old Velvet Rose. It is a Gallica that has been around since the 1500's. Tuscany is a medium-sized upright shrub, with dark-red to mauve semi-double blooms, depending on growing conditions. One of it's most attractive features is a show of yellow stamens. It has been known to blackspot in certain areas but is generally disease resistant and hardy in protected areas in Zone 4.
