Rose of the Month ~ November 2002

Hope For Humanity

It's hard to think about roses blooming the same day you Minnesota-tip all of your beauties, but this rose deserves a second thought. Hope For Humanity is a dark-red Parkland shrub, introduced in 1995. It is named in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Red Cross. The ARS rates it at 8.0. It has two big blooms during the growing season, with clusters of medium sized double blooms. Being from Canada, it's hardy here in zone 4 and grows upright to 6-10 feet. Some say it can grow up to 22 feet, but only in warmer climates.
