Rose of the Month ~
September/October 2007

H.C. Anderson

Another set of circumstances, this time in the form of computer failure, gives H.C. Andersen the chance to be our rose of the month for both September and October. This dark red floribunda, shown in the fabulous garden of Barb Webber during this year's ARS National Convention is a standout. Also known as Hans Chrisian Andersen and other names, it was introduced in 1986 and the ARS rates it 8.0. Its dark red clusters bloom in flushes through the summer on strong canes. The bush is medium-sized with medium green, disease resistant foliage. Although there are reports of hardiness throughout Zone 4, it will thrive with some winter protection. What is your experience with H.C. Andersen? Rate it in the poll below.
