Rose of the Month ~ February 2003

Hot Tamale

Just it's name alone makes Hot Tamale a winner, especially this time of year. It doesn't hurt that it is also one of the top rated Miniatures with an ARS rating of 8.2, ranked 5th in Exhibition ratings by Roses In Review and a 1994 ARS Award of Excellence winner. Hot Tamale is a yellow blend mini that ages to a bright yellow pink, giving off an electric glow. It was introduced in 1993 by Zary and moved right on to the show tables. The foliage is dark green, the plant is compact but tall, and the blooms are borne mostly singly but may develop clusters in cooler climates. It is disease-resistant and repeats bloom often. As with most minis, it is hardy only to Zone 5 so it does require some winter protection here in Zone 4 but a vase of these beauties on the table, at home or at the rose show, makes it all worthwhile. Check out the photo and links below and add your input by voting in our poll.
