Rose of the Month ~ January 2003

Abraham Darby

Submitted by Elena Williams Abraham Darby is an English Shrub Rose introduced by David Austin in 1985 as a cross of Yellow Cushion and Ahoha. It shows off fragrant yellow/salmon with yellow reverse blooms on a 5 foot plant and strong arching canes. The blooms are very double, large and cupped and the foliage is shiny dark green. Abraham Darby is a vigorous grower and has been known to climb over 7 feet if trained. As with other David Austin rose, in zones higher than 5 it does need winter protection. The ARS rates it at 7.3.
