Showing a rose isn't as complicated
as you might think. Follow this blue ribbon winner from
the prep table to the show. |

first, recut the stem under water

cleaning the foliage is always a good idea
cut the foil that will secure the stem in the vase

wrap the stem with the foil

place the rose in the vase
make sure the bloom is clean and free of bugs and dirt

check the ARS handbook for the correct name, spelling
and variety of the rose

check the show schedule for the correct section and
class
fill out the tag completely

attach the tag to the vase
place the rose in the correct class, in alphabetical
order with the best side facing forward
wait patiently for the judging (a perfect opportunity
to try your hand at clerking!)

and it's a winner!
Remember, there's always plenty of
people around to help at a show. Now head out to the
garden and see what's growing for the district show.
It's coming up soon! |
