St Cloud Children's Home Garden

The St. Cloud Children's Home is a Catholic Charities residential treatment center for children with emotional disturbances, between the ages of 8 and 17. Their program, Cultivating Youth, helps to enrich the lives of youth at the St. Cloud Children's Home through direct gardening experiences under the guidance of experienced gardeners. The garden, nestled within the cottages is maintained by the students each summer with the help of Dave Morreim and Dave Masters. We had the wonderful opportunity to tour the garden with Dave Morreim and students Tisha, Daniel, Jesse and Andy. Thank you to them for opening their door to us. After leaving the Munsinger and Clemens Gardens, our bus of tourists slightly damp in clothing if not in spirit headed out to the Children's Home. It's a beautiful formal garden, outside and yet only accessible through the cottages. Each student has their own plot and we were fortunate to have some of the students there to describe their selection of plants and the process that made the gardens what are there today...
